Our History

Following graduation from Kansas State University in May 1994, Dr. Ken Chaffin and his wife Lela moved to Winona, Minnesota. Dr. Chaffin began employment with Town and Country Veterinary Hospital (TCVH) on Mankato Avenue as a mixed animal Associate Veterinarian servicing both large and small animals. Dr. Chaffin enjoyed his position with TCVH traveling the bluff country and becoming acquainted with great people in the rural setting as well as residents of the Winona community. As the need for more pet care increased, Dr. Chaffin’s time was dedicated to servicing the small animal clients and patients. In February 2000, Dr. Chaffin purchased the small animal part of TCVH from Dr. John Bengfort and he and Lela started Companion Animal Care Center, a family pet care center. As the business grew, the Chaffins felt the need to expand and broke ground on a new veterinary center in December 2007. Companion Animal Care Center moved to its current location at 640 Innovation Drive in November of 2008 and continues to service the veterinary needs of the Winona community.
